The Future of Agro Business
3 December 2006
Bangladesh is an
overpopulated country of 140 million peoples. The poverty rate
of this country is very high and beside the opportunity of job
is also poor. The par capita income is nearly US$ 450. So we
need to create some innovative sectors for boosting up the
national economy. The poultry farm is one of those that can help
us potentially and in an efficient way to link up the
nutrition's economic gap in a faster rate then any other sector.
Lion Agro Complex Limited (LACL) commercially started its
operation in June 2000 by Mr. Mirza Abdul Khaleque. During the
talks he narrated the present situation that necessitated
promotion of the poultry sector. Mr. Mirza Abdul Khaleque said,
"If we manufactured quality feed locally, we could save our
hand-earned foreign currency. For the high price of the feed, we
cannot reduce the price of broiler chicks and eggs. Even the
veterinary sector should be strong and the government should set
up veterinary hospital in every union. Some times chickens died
in epidemic inflicting a huge on farmer. If we can prevent the
dieses, there should be a possibility to boost up this potential
sector."
The production capacity of LACL is 48000 chicks per week. With
few policy supports and further improvement in the enabling
environment, the LACL chief said the poultry could play a vital
role in removing the enormous unemployment problem of the
country.
Investing only taka 50-60 thousand one can easily earn taka 8-10
thousand per month. However the poultry association should be
more strengthened, bank interest should be eight to 10%, he
suggested. "We are introducing a training centre on hatcheries
from the next month." the LACL chief said.
He Said, "The overall scenario of this sector has been changing
over the last 7-8 years and, after thirty years of the
independence, we feel that our improvement is impressive in this
sector. We should sustain it for a better tomorrow."
Demanding the government's active role, he said, "We need more
awareness, reasonable feed price, and checking of smuggling of
eggs and chicks into the country through the borders." Moreover,
he added, the style discontent should be different in the
country. "Economic activities must be kept beyond the purview of
hartal and other similar political activities," |
